Frostglen is a modern mountain single-story home concept for Flagstaff, Arizona, designed to be simple, energy-efficient, and buildable while still feeling elevated and intentional. The plan prioritizes durable materials, strong daylighting, and a clean roof form, with a covered front porch and an attached one-car garage as key exterior anchors. Interior planning focuses on a vaulted great room and a wood-stove-centered living space that supports comfort and resilience.

Frostglen was envisioned for a remote homeowner planning a near-term build who wants an environmentally friendly home that stays efficient in both footprint and operation. Project Scope

The Frostglen project includes a full architectural plan set for a single-story custom home and attached garage, designed around energy efficiency and a compact, functional layout. The architectural program includes:
• 1,500–1,800 sq. ft. single-story home layout with a possible loft, paired with a 400–500 sq. ft. attached one-car garage on the north side
• Vaulted great room organized for daylight, wall space, and a wood stove with integrated wood storage, plus a clean, efficient circulation path
• Kitchen planning with an island sink, strong storage, and a practical garage-to-kitchen entry sequence, with garage utility features included (washer, dryer, deep sink)
• Two-bedroom, two-bath direction including a primary suite with walk-in shower, separate tub, and a walk-in closet accessed from the bath
• Outdoor living coordination including a covered front porch and a rear deck for hot tub and sauna use, oriented for privacy and sun exposure

Challenges Addressed

The design had to balance a modern mountain look with cost-aware buildability, strong energy performance, and a tightly prioritized room list. Key considerations included:
• Achieving a simple, modern exterior with a pitched roof and raised porch while staying compatible with local climate and practical detailing
• Coordinating the garage massing and utility needs without sacrificing the home’s clean, compact flow
• Designing the great room to support a wood stove, high windows, and usable wall space without introducing skylights in the bedroom areas
• Keeping the layout efficient while preserving comfort-forward features like a generous primary bath and closet sequence
• Defining a permit-ready scope that supports solar and green-material intent without overcomplicating early design decisions
