Overview
Kura is a modern, nature-integrated residence that channels Japanese-inspired minimalism through a bold, asymmetrical roofline, organic materials, and thoughtful spatial design. A mix of horizontal siding and dark stone cladding grounds the home visually, while clerestory windows and expansive glazing infuse the interior with light and openness. The layout emphasizes indoor-outdoor flow, with a poolside path leading directly to the main entrance and rear patio connections that extend the living area outdoors.
Client Type
Kura was envisioned for individuals or families seeking a calm, modern retreat with a natural aesthetic and functional layout. The home is designed to support both peaceful daily routines and occasional entertaining, with a focus on light-filled communal areas, privacy for bedrooms, and the flexibility to accommodate work-from-home lifestyles.
Project Scope
The Kura project includes the complete design of a two-level residence centered on livability, privacy, and environmental connection. The architectural program includes:
- Open-concept great room, kitchen, and dining area with large sliding glass doors
- Private master suite wing with luxury bath and walk-in closet
- Three additional bedrooms, one of which may serve as a flexible office space
- Outdoor pool with direct visual and physical access from the main living area
- Covered balcony and rear patio for extended outdoor use
- Clerestory and panoramic windows for natural light and passive solar benefit
- Durable exterior materials suited to long-term, low-maintenance living
Challenges Addressed
The design had to maintain visual balance despite an asymmetrical roofline and a multi-material façade. Key considerations included:
- Creating a light-filled interior while preserving privacy
- Balancing strong architectural lines with soft, natural materials
- Integrating the pool and patio into the daily use of the home
- Ensuring flexibility in room function without disrupting the overall flow
Goals Achieved
Kura provides a tranquil, modern environment attuned to both function and beauty:
✔️ Distinctive architecture with modern Japanese-inspired form and finish
✔️ Open central living space ideal for both family life and entertaining
✔️ Zoned bedroom wings that ensure quiet, private retreats
