Taliscar

Restarted single-story mountain home with detailed stone wainscot, porch, and garage mechanical plan.

Overview

Taliscar is a restarted, simplified single-story mountain/Craftsman home design intended to replace all prior concepts with a cleaner footprint and clearer build direction. The updated scope centers on snow-ready roof assumptions, a new porch, a south-end sliding glass door, and a detailed stone wainscot system that must be shown consistently across elevations and sections. Mechanical planning is also clarified early, with key equipment located in the garage to streamline layout and construction coordination.

Client Type

Taliscar is for homeowners who want a smaller, more intentional mountain home after refining priorities through an in-person reset. It fits clients who care about exterior character and construction detailing—especially masonry, wainscot proportions, and Craftsman styling—while still wanting a straightforward, permit-ready set. It also aligns with owners building in cold-weather regions where snow load and durable assemblies are non-negotiable.

Project Scope

Taliscar is a new concept restart for a single-story Craftsman/mountain residence, replacing all previous design work and moving forward only from the revised scope. Deliverables and key design requirements include:
• New concept + full permit-ready plan set (floor plans, foundation, roof plan, elevations, sections, site plan as required)
• Exterior wainscot system detailed and coordinated (4' height, 6–8" depth, 2x4 outframing, flagstone veneer, stone cap, 2x2 furring as specified)
• Porch addition plus a south elevation sliding glass door coordinated with plan + elevations
• Mechanical coordination with garage-located tankless water heater and garage-located furnace, allowing for access/clearances/venting and fire separation considerations
• Mountain climate assumptions integrated into detailing and notes (snow load, wind exposure, cold-weather considerations)

Challenges Addressed

The restart required locking a new direction quickly while ensuring the detailing is consistent and buildable across the set. The main challenges addressed were:
• Replacing the discontinued prior concepts with a clean, unified scope that controls all future drafting
• Translating a specific wainscot/masonry vision into repeatable, correctly dimensioned elevation and section details
• Coordinating the porch and new sliding door placement so exterior intent matches interior layout and circulation
• Integrating garage-based mechanical equipment early to avoid conflicts with structure, access, and venting
• Accounting for mountain conditions (snow/cold/wind) so roof and assembly notes remain permit-appropriate

Goals Achieved

Taliscar establishes a clear “single source of truth” scope and organizes the highest-impact decisions for a smooth production set:
✔️ Restarted design direction with all previous scopes voided and replaced by the revised intent
✔️ Defined Craftsman/mountain exterior character anchored by a fully specified wainscot system
✔️ Key exterior updates captured (new porch + south sliding door) for coordinated plan/elevation development
✔️ Mechanical locations confirmed (garage furnace + garage tankless water heater) for cleaner layout coordination
✔️ Permit-ready deliverables clearly outlined to support county submission and revision responsiveness

AutoCad

Taliscar is a refined restart that replaces all prior concepts with a smaller, clearer single-story mountain/Craftsman home direction. The scope prioritizes consistent exterior detailing—especially the 4' flagstone wainscot with cap and defined depth—along with a new porch, a south sliding door, and early mechanical clarity via garage-based equipment. The result is a clean path to a coordinated, permit-ready plan set.
