Overview
The Solara project blends modern Japanese-inspired design with a strong emphasis on comfort, functionality, and connection to the outdoors. Featuring a clean, natural material palette and a balanced mix of open communal spaces and private retreats, the home offers a peaceful yet practical environment for everyday living. Its thoughtful layout, warm textures, and fluid transitions between indoor and outdoor areas create a refined yet grounded atmosphere ideal for both family life and quiet reflection.
Client Type
Solara was designed for a client seeking a modern, light-filled home that balances simplicity with sophistication. The goal was to create a space that supports everyday living, remote work, and family gatherings, all while maintaining a strong connection to nature and a sense of peaceful retreat.
Project Scope
Solara included a full architectural design package focused on modern form, functional flow, and a natural material palette. Key elements of the design include:
A 2,761-square-foot layout with open-concept living and dining spaces
A private master suite and flexible bedroom/office options
Seamless indoor-outdoor transitions with large windows and sliding doors
Modern Japanese-inspired detailing with stucco, wood siding, and stone
Durable, low-maintenance materials including a standing seam metal roof
Covered outdoor areas for year-round enjoyment and entertaining
Challenges Addressed
A primary design challenge was creating a home that balanced openness and privacy across two floors while maintaining a clear and functional layout. The client prioritized a strong connection to the outdoors, which required thoughtful placement of windows, sliding doors, and outdoor living areas. Additionally, blending modern Japanese-inspired aesthetics with durable, climate-appropriate materials demanded careful attention to proportion, texture, and detail to ensure the home felt both refined and enduring.
